Midweek football means we have to bet on it regardless of who is playing. Don't get mad at me, that is just the rules. We have a Sun Belt matchup between the Georgia State Panthers and the Appalachian State Mountaineers at 7:30 PM ET tonight. App State is a 9.5-point favorite, and the over/under is set at 60.
Appalachian State won all our hearts this year with their 17-14 win over #6 Texas A&M. It was their second win against a top 10 team. We won't mention who their first win was against. Since that win, App State has sort of fell off from discussion. They lost a close one to James Madison, and then had a bad loss last week against Texas State. Their record now sits at 3-3 with a 1-2 sunbelt conference record. Tonight has big implications for the Mountaineers as they try to get back on track for a conference championship.
Georgia State, on the other hand started of the season with four consecutive losses but have since picked up momentum with two wins in a row. Like App State, Georgia State played North Carolina tough and also lost by just a touchdown. Last week the Panthers had an impressive win over in state rival Georgia Southern and now are carrying momentum as they look to upset a very beatable App State squad.
With the uncertainty of Appalachian State, I have decided to stay away from the spread. 9.5 points is too big of a spread in my eyes to put on App State. If I had to choose, I would lean Georgia State plus the points. I like the total much more in this game. 60 points is quite the point total but is very achievable by both teams. Georgia State scores just shy of 30 points a game and allows 33. App State scores 35 points a game and allows 28.8. The total of 60 points has hit 4 of the 6 Georgia State games, and 2 of 6 for Appalachian not including 2 games where the total was exactly 60 points.
With both teams struggling defensively, and having high scoring offenses, I like my chances of the over hitting. I predict this game to stay close for it's entirety with a final score of 38-31 App State.
Over 60 Points
As always, Godspeed, good luck, and good scores!
