Pebble Recap - WM Open Preview

BIG BIG WEEK! But before we move onto the People’s Open this weekend, let’s recap the Pebble Pro-Am.

Pebble Beach

Top of mind thoughts. I’m happy to see Hoge win, always fun to see a first-time winner, especially one that’s been at it a while. A Jordan collapse that we’re all used to (but he’s still back). Lastly, it’s unfortunate that a tournament at Pebble is lined up on the same weekend as a big event in Saudi Arabia, a lot of big names I’d like to see weren’t at the iconic course.

As for my bets… not good! Jason Day was my #1 pick and started out fantastic, however, a Saturday 70 and Sunday 74 killed him and he finished T24. On the other side, Adam Hadwin finished T-16 after being +10,000 (not too shabby). And lastly our boy Grayson, he made the cut! I don’t care what anyone says, going from worst odds to a $17k payday for him, have a week!

WM Phoenix Open

A glorious week is upon us as a few of the WorstBets contributors will be heading down to the Grand Canyon State to delete some beers, catch some rays, watch some golf, and supposedly there is a football game on Sunday.

Besides a few major championship locations, TPC Scottsdale is one of the more exciting venues on the tour. Hole 16 is great for golf, even though many say it’s not (change is inevitable idiots). But let’s not stop there, the field is fantastic, Koepka, Spieth, Hovland, Schauffy, Thomas, Deki Mats, Rahmbo, and of course… C.T. Pan.

Let’s get into some bets.

PrinceBet and I will be live betting on Hole 16 the entire day. I’m thinking about throwing some hole-in-one plays out there, but that will be a decision I make while intoxicated.

Right now we’ve got Jon Rahm as the favorite at +600, this makes sense, he’s the best in the world right now and it’s not super close. Contrary to last week, I like Cantlay this week, he went from +650 last week to +1,600 this week. Yes, I know he is a Cali boy and does well at Pebble AND half the field was out last week, but I still like it. Further, Brooks and Deki Mats have each won twice in the last 7 years, something to keep an eye on.

My long shot of the week is Emiliano Grillo at +20,000. I’ll say it, I don’t have much of a reason here. I remember watching him 5 or so years ago and he was electric. He then fell off. However, he had a T2 and T6 last year and a few top 20 finishes.

Bets:

Patrick Cantlay to win +1,600

Emiliano Grillo to win +20,000

Drunken live bets

That’ll Play!
