A full slate of college bowl games is upon us on this lovely day. The much anticipated first game of the day is Houston vs Auburn in the Birmingham Bowl at 12pm ET. Houston (11-2) is a 2 point underdog to Auburn (6-6).
This is a tricky game because it is supposed to be a neutral bowl site, it is in Birmingham, Alabama, which makes it practically a home game for Auburn. Another tricky aspect of this game is that you have to factor in the difference in conferences that these two teams play in. Auburn, a shitty SEC team, who took Bama to 4 OT'S, and Houston, a superb nonpower five team, who battled with Cincinnati. All of these make for a very difficult decision.
Here are a few key facts before we get into the bets. Both teams have very good defenses but are both without their star CB's, who are both opting out to prepare for the draft. Auburn is without Bo Nix, who missed most of the season, and a couple O linemen. Auburn also has fired their OC, and their Head Coach will take over the duties today. Houston has a great passing offense while Auburn's secondary struggles. However, Auburn's defensive line excels! Likewise, Houston's DL will have a field day as they rank 5th in the country in sacks.
With all this being said, I love Houston in this game. They are looking for their first 12 win season in 6 years, and have had a great season. Auburn's season has been a wash and they really are just trying to gain some momentum for next season. I also love watching great defenses, but I don't think they will have a game they everyone thinks they will, which makes me love the controversial over.
My best bet: Houston ML, O51.5 points
